Bigscreen Beyond VR Headset Now Shipping to First US Preorder Customers

The highly anticipated Bigscreen Beyond VR headset is finally making its way to the first wave of US preorder customers. This ultra-compact and ultra-light SteamVR headset is designed to provide comfort during long-duration PC-based VR sessions. With its unique features and customization options, it promises to revolutionize the VR gaming experience.

Customization and Unique Features

One of the standout features of the Beyond VR headset is its use of OLED microdisplays, which contribute to its small size and light weight. Additionally, Bigscreen goes beyond standard adjustable headsets by offering a customized fit for each buyer’s face and eyes. Using a cutting-edge 3D face scan technology, specifically the iPhone 3D face scan, Bigscreen ensures that users have a comfortable and personalized VR experience.

The first wave of US customers received an email in late June, inviting them to perform their face scan as part of the ordering process. Although the initial estimated shipping time was 1-4 months, the company managed to deliver the first units just over six weeks later. Bigscreen aims to further reduce this shipping gap to an impressive 3-6 weeks.

Expanded Availability

In addition to the US, Bigscreen is now accepting orders from customers in 13 new countries, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. This expansion of availability demonstrates the growing demand for the Beyond VR headset and its popularity among gaming enthusiasts worldwide.

Pricing and Additional Requirements

The Beyond VR headset is priced at $1000 or can be purchased for $32/month. However, it’s important to note that the headset does not come with positional tracking or controllers out of the box. Users will need to have at least one SteamVR base station and their own input devices, such as Valve Index controllers, to fully utilize the headset’s capabilities.

Rave Reviews and Future Developments

Early testers of the Beyond VR headset have praised its incredibly lightweight design. Ian Hamilton from UploadVR described the experience as “feeling entirely transported to a virtual environment” while having minimal weight on his face.

In June, Bigscreen announced last-minute improvements to the lenses, enhancing the field of view, clarity, and reducing visual artifacts. This update, along with the announcement of Apple Vision Pro’s unveiling, resulted in a significant increase in preorders.

Looking ahead, Bigscreen plans to ship tens of thousands of headsets in the coming months and expand international shipments in Q4 of this year. Additionally, they are working on the development of the Audio Strap accessory, which is set to be released in Q4 as well.

Bigscreen Beyond is undoubtedly a game-changer in the world of VR headsets. Its compact design, customization options, and immersive experience make it a top choice for VR enthusiasts. With improved availability and future developments on the horizon, Bigscreen is poised to dominate the VR gaming market.
