New Packaging for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Amiibo Series Sparks Speculation
Nintendo’s amiibo line, although not as bustling as it once was, continues to release new figurines regularly. Recent reports have surfaced regarding updated packaging for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo series, catching the attention of fans.
A user on the Famiboards forum, going by the name Ajimi, shared photos of the new packaging design. The most notable change is the absence of any mention of the Nintendo Switch or other compatible platforms on the back of the box.
Ajimi: “I work at retail in France, and today we received ‘new’ Smash amiibos (Link, Luigi, and DK so far). They are the same as before, but the back of the box is different, a lot more neutral (no pictures and no mention of a specific game or console).”
The comparison image shared by amiibo Alerts on Twitter showcases the new packaging on the left, which now only mentions how amiibo can be used with “compatible software.” In contrast, the old packaging displayed all compatible platforms along with additional game information.
While there is no official confirmation of this packaging update yet, it has sparked speculation among fans and industry observers. One possible reason behind the change could be Nintendo’s attempt to “future-proof” its amiibo line. Additionally, considering Nintendo’s diminishing focus on the 3DS and Wii U consoles, the removal of specific platform mentions may align with the company’s current direction.
