Guide on Obtaining the Monte Carlo and Catalyst in Destiny 2

Getting Monte Carlo and its Catalyst in Destiny 2

Getting Monte Carlo and its Catalyst in Destiny 2 is a good idea, especially after its rework in Season of the Witch, also known as Season 22. In its current state, the Exotic Auto Rifle has been available in the online shooter since Season 8, which dates back to 2019. The weapon is even older, however, as it was introduced in the original Destiny game. Monte Carlo occupies the Kinetic slot, meaning it does not have a specific elemental alignment. Even though it has long been a popular option among Guardians, the weapon has finally received its long-solicited revamp, which makes its bayonet usable – nine years after its original debut.

How To Get Monte Carlo In Destiny 2 (Drop Locations)

To get Monte Carlo in Destiny 2, you will depend on luck with the RNG (random number generator) system. The Auto Rifle comes in Exotic Engrams, which are a rare drop that may occur in most of the shooter’s activities. Even if you do obtain an Exotic Engram, there is no guarantee it will be a copy of Monte Carlo. If you receive an Exotic Engram in the open world, there is a chance it will be a Monte Carlo automatically.

Similarly, you may get an undeciphered Exotic Engram in Destiny 2, which can then be decoded with Master Rahool in the Tower. This also has a chance of becoming a Monte Carlo Auto Rifle. If you have already unlocked Monte Carlo in the past but do not have it in the Vault, you need simply visit the Collections tab in the character profile screen and, from there, go to the Exotic Kinetic Weapons page. Monte Carlo can be reacquired for a total of 2,500x Glimmer and 20x Legendary Shards.

Be sure to check Xur’s inventory every week, as he may occasionally sell Monte Carlo during his temporary visits on weekends. This may give you a better shot of getting it without depending on the RNG.

How To Get Monte Carlo In New Destiny 2 Quest

Aside from the sheer reliance on the RNG system, which can be brutal due to how many standard Exotic pieces of gear are available in the game, there is a new method of obtaining the Monte Carlo Auto Rifle with a guaranteed drop rate. This involves the new Timeline Reflections questline added with Season of the Witch. This new feature was introduced by developer Bungie as a way of showing players, new and veteran, key moments in the Destiny 2 storyline, all of which will be important for when The Final Shape expansion arrives in February 2024 – especially because it has removed content, like the Forsaken campaign.

The Timeline Reflections quest is a free addition to Destiny 2 and can be accessed by any player, from those who have not purchased any DLC to those who have invested real-life money in the game. This questline can also grant a free copy of Monte Carlo to anyone who completes it in its entirety. To start it, you will need to first claim the quest. This can be done by visiting the Tower and then heading west until you reach Ikora Rey. Talking to her will allow you to obtain the Timeline Reflections quest, which can then be consulted in the Quests tab on your Director page.

On the Quests tab, you can select the Timeline Reflections mission and track it. This will make it much easier to see where you need to go next and will continue to show new checkpoints as you progress through the story.

To conclude the Timeline Reflections quest and claim the free Monte Carlo in Destiny 2, you will need to complete a total of four steps that will take you on adventures across the game’s timeline. The first mission is called “Cayde’s Fate” and it shows the story of the legendary Hunter’s demise in the Forsaken campaign. To access this bit of content, you will need to head over to the Destinations tab on your Director and, in the top right corner of the page, you should click on the Timeline button. You will then need to scroll backward to Forsaken, where you will be able to select “Cayde’s Fate.”

Completing the Forsaken mission will grant Austringer as a reward. The second step in Timeline Reflections requires the completion of the “Crux of Stasis” mission, which will take place in the Beyond Light portion of the Timeline page on your Director. This will reward you with a Recurrent Impact. The third and final mission to complete is “Lucent Hive,” also found on the Timeline page on your Director. Completion of this mission grants a Judgment of Kelgorath. After all three missions have been completed, in this order, the final step in getting Monte Carlo is returning to Ikora Rey in Destiny 2.

By interacting with the character after completing all missions, you will be able to claim a free copy of Monte Carlo at a reasonable level. You will still have to unlock the weapon’s Catalyst to be able to use the bayonet feature as a melee attack, but the weapon itself has now been obtained – and without needing to rely on Destiny 2’s RNG.

How To Unlock The Monte Carlo Catalyst In Destiny 2

While obtaining the Auto Rifle is an endeavor in and of itself, the search for the Monte Carlo Catalyst in Destiny 2 is also troublesome. The only way of getting it is by playing some of the game’s activities. Vanguard Ops, Crucible, and Gambit all have a chance of dropping the Exotic weapon’s Catalyst. Once again, you will rely on the RNG. It is important to note that you may acquire the Monte Carlo Catalyst before actually obtaining the weapon itself.

Once you have unlocked both the weapon and the Catalyst, you will need to complete an additional task to fully unlock it. This involves defeating a total of 700 enemies with Monte Carlo. After this task is concluded, the Catalyst will be equippable on the Auto Rifle. It was described by Bungie in a teaser posted on the official Destiny 2 YouTube channel as “mechanically the most complex Catalyst we have ever done.” When equipped with the weapon, this additional perk allows Monte Carlo’s bayonet to be used as a melee attack in Destiny 2.
