Microsoft Says Minecraft Isn’t Getting A Native Xbox Series X|S Version, For Now
Right, so, yesterday we reported on a brand new ESRB rating for Minecraft on Xbox Series X|S – we thought a ‘next-gen’ version of the title could have been imminent following such a rating. Well, apparently not! Microsoft has today come out and shut down any speculation on a new version of Minecraft.
The Xbox owner has provided a statement to Eurogamer that effectively squashes any chances of Minecraft on Xbox Series X|S, at least for the time being. Here’s what Microsoft had to say on the matter:
“Given the number of platforms and geographies in which Minecraft is available, we periodically go through rating reviews and updates with different regional boards […] This recent rating is not indicative of any new versions or platform support for Minecraft in the near future.”
Well, we guess that’s it for now then! Of course, nothing can be totally ruled out for the future, but given this ‘next-gen’ version of Minecraft has been hanging around since pre-release Xbox Series X demos, it doesn’t look like Microsoft has any plans for an imminent current-gen release. Bummer!
Why all the speculation?
- A new ESRB rating for a potential Xbox Series X|S version of Minecraft sparked excitement and speculation among fans.
Microsoft’s statement
- Microsoft has provided a statement to Eurogamer denying the existence of a current-gen version of Minecraft for Xbox Series X|S.
- According to Microsoft, the recent rating is not indicative of any new versions or platform support for Minecraft in the near future.
- Microsoft claims that they periodically go through rating reviews and updates with different regional boards due to the game’s availability on multiple platforms and geographies.
The future of Minecraft on Xbox Series X|S
- Although Microsoft’s statement suggests that a current-gen version of Minecraft is not on the horizon, they did not rule out the possibility for the future.
- However, the fact that the ‘next-gen’ version of Minecraft has been present since pre-release Xbox Series X demos indicates that an imminent release is unlikely.
- Fans hoping for a native Xbox Series X|S version of Minecraft will have to wait and see if Microsoft changes its stance in the future.
