Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty – How much playing time is in the addon?

Phantom Liberty brings a new city area and numerous new main and side missions. But how long will the expansion keep you busy?

Introduction to Phantom Liberty

Phantom Liberty, the latest expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, introduces players to the autonomous district of Dogtown, a secluded part of Night City. This expansion is packed with new missions, gigs, and activities. But how long does it take to complete? Let’s dive in.

Entering the World of Phantom Liberty

Before embarking on the Phantom Liberty journey, players need to finish the main quest “Transmission” from the base game, which revolves around the Voodoo Boys. After this, Songbird reaches out, granting access to the new area. For those eager to jump straight into the expansion, there’s an option to start a new game with a level 15 character, bypassing the initial quest. However, if you’re starting from scratch, allocate at least 10 hours for the main quest up to “Transmission”.

The Main Quest Duration

Dogtown offers a fresh main storyline. Depending on your playstyle, this can range from 20 to 25 hours. This estimate assumes you’re sidelining other side quests and open-world activities. If you’re the stealthy type, sneaking around enemies, it might take longer. Conversely, a more aggressive approach might speed things up. At one point, players must complete at least three side missions, but these are included in the 20 to 25-hour estimate.

Exploring Side Quests and Activities

For those who wish to immerse themselves fully, completing all side missions and engaging in open-world activities like parachute drops or vehicle missions, the gameplay extends to 30 to 40 hours. This duration solely pertains to Phantom Liberty, excluding the main game. It’s highly recommended to explore these side quests as they are truly rewarding.

Post-Main Quest Gameplay

Fear not when you see the end credits after completing Phantom Liberty’s main quest. Players can seamlessly return to Night City and continue their journey. New side missions even unlock in Dogtown post-completion.

Journey to the Epilogue

Upon meeting certain conditions for the new ending, players encounter a new Point-of-No-Return, marking the quest leading to the epilogue. Ensure you’ve wrapped up everything you wanted to before this point. The good news? There’s no need to revert to the main game unless you wish to. The quest leading to the new ending becomes available shortly after the main story of the expansion concludes. If you focus solely on the main quest and then head straight to the ending, you’re looking at approximately 23 to 28 hours. Incorporating side quests and other activities extends this to about 33 to 43 hours. In our playthrough, starting with a brand-new character, it took roughly 40 hours, with some side quests still remaining.

Replay Value of Phantom Liberty

A significant decision in the main story drastically alters the gameplay. Players who choose Option A will have a different experience from those who opt for Option B. The epilogue also varies slightly based on completed missions and established relationships in Night City. Even minor side missions can present choices leading to new quests, enhancing the replay value of the expansion.

In conclusion, Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion offers a rich and immersive experience, with gameplay duration varying based on individual playstyles and choices. Whether you’re a newcomer or a returning player, there’s plenty to explore and enjoy in this expansive world.
