Quest’s Smash Drums Unveils Exciting ‘Smashed Reality’ MR Update

Smash Drums to Get Free Mixed Reality Update Exclusively on Quest

Smash Drums, the popular rhythm drumming game developed by PotamWorks SAS, is set to receive an exciting new update. The upcoming update, called Smashed Reality, will bring mixed reality gameplay exclusively to Oculus Quest. This update will leverage Quest’s scene model capture tools to create dynamically destructible stages, adding a whole new level of immersion to the game.

What is Smash Drums?

Smash Drums, released nearly two years ago, has garnered a dedicated fanbase with its addictive gameplay and energetic music. Players take on the role of a drummer, smashing virtual drums in sync with a variety of songs. With previous updates like Classic Mode and additional songs, Smash Drums continues to provide fresh content to its players.

Smashed Reality: The Mixed Reality Experience

The Smashed Reality update takes the gameplay experience to a whole new level. Utilizing the scene model capture tools on Oculus Quest, developers have created dynamically destructible stages that respond to the player’s hits and the music’s rhythm. As players progress through the song, the world around them gradually crumbles, syncing perfectly with their powerful drum hits.

The update introduces three exciting environments for players to drum in – a rock show arena, a volcano crater, and the Moon. These visually stunning locations provide a unique backdrop for players to immerse themselves in. Players will even have the ability to use lightning-charged drumsticks to obliterate any wall that stands in their way, adding an extra layer of interactive fun to the game.

Quest Exclusive and Future Plans

Developer Julien “Potam” Potamianos confirms that Smashed Reality will be a Quest exclusive for the foreseeable future. While the Quest 2 and Quest Pro versions are identical in terms of gameplay, there may be differences in color and resolution. However, the developer has also hinted at Quest 3 specific improvements in the pipeline, although further details have not been revealed.

Additionally, Smash Drums plans to introduce paid DLC songs featuring “legendary rock bands”, adding even more variety to the game’s soundtrack and expanding the player’s musical options.

Availability and Release Date

Smash Drums is currently available on Oculus Quest and Pico platforms. As for the Smashed Reality mixed reality update, PotamWorks SAS intends to release it in the next few months, following closed beta testing. Players can look forward to an even more immersive drumming experience with the arrival of this exciting update.

With its unique gameplay mechanics and the upcoming Smashed Reality update, Smash Drums remains at the forefront of rhythm drumming games, providing endless fun and entertainment for music enthusiasts and virtual reality gamers alike.
