Portal 2 Receives Unofficial VR Support with Flat2VR Mod

Portal 2, the beloved puzzle-platformer game from Valve, has received unofficial virtual reality (VR) support through the Flat2VR mod. This mod, developed by Giovanni ‘Gistix’ Correia from the Flat2VR modding group, brings the full Portal 2 campaign into VR, allowing players to experience the game in an entirely new way.

The Flat2VR mod features 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) support and full motion controls, enabling players to navigate and interact with the game world using their VR headset and controllers. This means that you can physically walk around and manipulate objects just like in the real world, adding a whole new level of immersion to the Portal 2 experience.

While there have been previous mods that introduced Portal 2-inspired test chambers in Valve’s VR game, Half-Life: Alyx, this new mod brings the entire Portal 2 campaign into VR. You can now play through the thrilling story of Chell and GLaDOS in virtual reality, solving intricate puzzles and exploring the Aperture Science facility like never before.

The Flat2VR mod is available now for download through Github and also supports Steam Workshop content, giving players access to user-created levels and modifications. With the mod installed, Portal 2 becomes a fully-fledged VR game, offering countless hours of immersive gameplay and puzzle-solving.

It is worth noting that the Flat2VR mod is still a work in progress, and there are some known issues and limitations with the current build. For example, the in-game UI and pause menu are currently broken, and there are plans to improve the implementation of haptic feedback and enhance the 6DOF and roomscale support.
