Reaction: Spyro’s New Sales Milestone Gives Us Hope For An Xbox Revival
Activision’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy has officially hit 10 million copies sold – a big old achievement for the little old dragon that made its remastered return back in 2018. We’re not satisfied with just the remastered trilogy though – we want more Spyro and we hope Xbox has plans for the series’ future.
Okay, we sound like we’re being a wee bit hasty here. The trilogy was brilliant and to be honest, it was good to see Spyro return to form as it did, and on Xbox to boot. Following up the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy wasn’t easy and Spyro passed the test with flying colours.
However, unlike everyone’s favourite bandicoot, Spyro never got a proper sequel afterwards. Crash fans were treated to Crash 4: It’s About Time back in 2020, but news on a brand-new Spyro game has been all quiet over the last few years – at least in an official capacity.
And, we think there’s lots of potential for more from Spyro, to be honest. It’s a more ‘traditional’ 3D platformer than Crash, with open level design and freeform gameplay mechanics that probably suit a modern audience better than PlayStation’s old mascot has done so far.
The Case for a New Spyro Game on Xbox
None of us need reminding that Microsoft is still working away on trying to purchase Activision Blizzard and all of its IP, but, we are hoping that if the deal goes through, projects like a brand-new Spyro title may be more likely. A new Spyro game day one on Game Pass sounds fantastic, and it’ll help bolster Xbox’s family-game lineup too.
We actually wouldn’t mind a full open world Spyro, you know. Yeah, not everything needs to be open world, but Spyro’s style seems quite well suited to a big open 3D platformer, or something at least similar to Super Mario Odyssey in size and structure.
The Potential of Spyro on Xbox
Spyro’s new sales milestone proves that there is still a demand for the little purple dragon. With its more accessible gameplay mechanics and open level design, Spyro’s potential on Xbox is immense. Here are some reasons why a new Spyro game on Xbox would be a great move:
- Xbox’s family-oriented game lineup would benefit from the addition of Spyro.
- A new Spyro game day one on Game Pass would attract a wider audience.
- Spyro’s traditional 3D platformer mechanics would resonate well with modern gamers.
Conclusion
With Spyro Reignited Trilogy’s impressive sales milestone and the potential acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, the future looks bright for Spyro on Xbox. Fans of the little purple dragon can hope for a new game that takes advantage of Xbox’s platform and showcases Spyro’s unique gameplay mechanics. Whether it’s a full open world adventure or a more traditional 3D platformer, a new Spyro game on Xbox would undoubtedly be a welcome addition to the gaming world.
