AI Chatbot Based on Serial Experiments Lain Lets Users Talk to Lain Iwakura
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Serial Experiments Lain anime series, an AI chatbot has been developed that allows users to interact with Lain Iwakura, the main character of the show. Anique, a company specializing in digital logistics and collectibles, created the Lain AI using OpenAI technology and CoeFont for the voice.
The chatbot utilizes archived recordings and original scripts from the series to train and can communicate in both English and Japanese, replicating the voice of the original voice actor, Kaori Shimizu.
Subscription Options and Features
The Lain AI chatbot offers various subscription options for users. The basic plan starts at $20 per month, allowing users to have limited conversations with Lain. For more dedicated fans, there is a six-month unlimited chatting plan priced at $100.
Paid users also have the opportunity to suggest new words to expand Lain’s vocabulary. Additionally, they have the chance to win collectibles based on the Serial Experiments Lain anime series. An exclusive “Sponsor Plan” is available for $5,000, which includes 10 unlimited memberships and commercial use of the Lain AI.
Development Challenges and Excitement
The writer and producer of the series, Yasuyuki Ueda, expressed his enjoyment in witnessing the growth of the Lain AI. Despite the technological challenges faced during its development, he is thrilled with the chatbot’s evolution.
Voice actress Kaori Shimizu described a sense of completion with the development of the Lain AI. She expressed that her role in voicing the character 25 years ago felt like lending her natural voice to Lain, and she is delighted to see Lain “resurrected” in the modern era.
