The Best Grand Theft Auto Memes

GTA III was the first of its kind, so it’s no wonder that money was practically useless. Besides buying a few guns, spray painting your car, or hiring prostitutes, there was much else to do with it. We all want money in video games, but it becomes tedious if you ever have unlimited money. The challenge is lost, and there’s nothing to work towards. That was the feeling of GTA III. If only we got some of that money on the other titles in the series. Ones where it mattered if you had money or not.

A studio as famous and acclaimed as Rockstar should be able to handle remastering a previous title. After all, it’s their own games, so it’s nothing they haven’t dealt with before. That was the common thought among fans until GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition was released in 2021. Somehow, they made a twenty-year-old game look worse, but at least it’s in HD this time, so we can see how bad it is.

The more you look around online, the more examples of ways Rockstar ruined the remastered versions you’ll find. From removing fan-favorite mechanics or including horrendous animations, there is no shortage of content. But of course, the most obvious and glaring are the character models who look like shells of their former selves.

It’s no secret that Rockstar takes their time with games. Looking at Red Dead Redemption, we can see that it took eight years to release its sequel. Grand Theft Auto V was first released in September 2013, meaning that its ten-year anniversary is approaching. While we have a sequel in the works, there has been no confirmed release date as of yet. Ten years is long enough for a whole new player base to experience the game, although it feels like a lot longer than that. At this rate, we won’t see GTA VII until the 2030s, perhaps even longer.

If it didn’t happen within the past 30 seconds, it doesn’t exist in the eyes of GTA police. You may have killed multiple citizens and dealt millions of dollars in property damage, but hiding in a corner for a moment will wipe your slate clean. GTA could very much use the bounty system from Red Dead Redemption.

Your natural instinct when sensing danger should be to fight or flight. However, you have to know when to pick your battles, as some you are guaranteed to lose. GTA pedestrians somehow think they can take on a 4,000-pound car, barreling at that at 80mph. Like a deer in headlights, they stare you down until you hit or spare them. For as grateful as they should be for stopping a freak accident, they always have some trash talk to throw your way, which is when we get to the next meme.

There’s something about being a career criminal that brings out the worst in people. Perhaps the small army arsenal players can carry around in their back pockets gives them an ego. Regardless, there’s nothing more fun than taking revenge on a pedestrian who gets a little too mouthy. Just as they thought you would drive away, they will instead see the headlights as you begin to turn around.

Money makes the world go around, and no one loves money more than video game companies. It’s reported that Rockstar makes over $800 million a year on GTA Online alone. That’s some serious cash flow. It makes sense why Rockstar shuts down any glitch that gets in the way of profits, but perhaps they could use some of those profits to fix the game.

The American Dream is dead. Or so we are told. GTA IV not only has one of the darkest storylines in the franchise but an atmosphere to match. Walking around Liberty City, you can easily mistake it for New York due to its grim nature. Something terrible could happen at any moment, like getting shot or stabbed. While GTA III is similar, looking at V, Vice City, and San Andreas, you can see a stark difference in tone. Vice City may be inspired by Scarface and Miami Vice, but its sun-soaked beaches don’t give off the doom-and-gloom vibes of GTA IV.
